MoU - Cardiological Society of India (CSI) and IDEAS, Technology Innovation Hub

IDEAS TIH and CSI join forces to develop early detection system to combat Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD)
Announcing a groundbreaking research collaboration between Institute of Data Engineering, Analytics and Science Foundation at Indian Statistical Institute and the Cardiological Society of India (CSI). This partnership aims to develop an automated system for detecting Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) by analyzing phonocardiogram (PCG) signals of heart murmurs, collected through commercially available digital stethoscopes during screenings of school children. PCG signals are audio recordings of the heart’s sounds, which provide vital information about heart valve functionality.
Key Highlights of the Partnership:
-
Objective: Development and validation of an automated RHD detection system through extensive surveys conducted among school children in RHD-endemic areas across India.
-
Global Impact: Once validated, the system will be utilized in other endemic zones worldwide, facilitating early detection and treatment among children aged 5-14 years.
-
Broader Applications: Screening for congenital heart diseases in children and early detection of valvular heart diseases in pregnant women, which is a significant cause of maternal heart failure and mortality in India.
-
This innovative project marks a significant step towards leveraging technology for better healthcare outcomes. We look forward to the positive impact this collaboration will have on public health, both in India and globally. Our partnership addresses critical health issues and has the potential to save countless lives.
