Unique opportunity for undergraduate students of the degree colleges affiliated to University of Calcutta, West Bengal State University, and other state Universities

Data scientists and Social Scientists conduct research to solve technological, business, social and environmental challenges. These professionals play a key role in solving complex problems and making significant contributions to society, from predicting disease outbreaks to developing sustainable solutions for environmental challenges

The IDEAS Technology Innovation Hub at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, is organizing a three-week summer internship-cum-training program for undergraduate students. This program is meticulously designed to welcome students from various fields,
providing them with invaluable insights into foundations of data analysis through hands-on experience with real-world data. This program has been designed to meet the NEP 2020 and UGC guidelines for 120 hours of summer internship.

Internship Duration: 12th June to 30th June 2024

Due to overwhelming number of registrations, we are closing the registration a day early from 8th June 2024. Apologies for the inconvenience caused!

Eligibility: Open to all undergraduate students from any college or university

​

Delivery Model: 24 hours of classroom training, 24 hours of lab work, 60 hours of field work/project, 16 hours of self-study = Total 120 hours. Classes and Labs will take place at IDEAS Technology Innovation Hub, ISI Baranagar Campus. Classes and Labs will be held from 10am to 6pm (Mon-Sat)

Specializations: Each student may select one of the following specialization

​

Data Science Track: This will cover topics such as Basics of Data Science, Problem Solving and Communication Skills Training, Hands-on Python programming for basic data analysis. Project work will involve application of programming on real life data

​

Social Science Track: This will cover topics such as Fundamentals of Research Methodology, Problem Solving and Communication Skills Training, Data Analysis and Visualization. Project work will involve field work and data analysis

​

Internship Management Fees: IDEAS TIH will collect a Rs. 2000 (inclusive of GST) to manage the internship program. The fee needs to be deposited to the following bank account prior to enrolling for this internship. Fees will not be refunded after the internship is initiated:

Terms & Conditions:

  1. This program is offered by the Institute of Data Engineering, Analytics and Science Foundation (IDEAS), which is a not-for-profit company and a technology innovation hub of the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.

  2. Internship completion certificate will be issued by IDEAS TIH upon successful completion of the training and field work/project deliverables. Students who do not complete the project work will not get receive the internship completion certificate.

  3. Having a functional laptop is a mandatory pre-requisite for this internship. Students will need to bring their laptops for the labwork and project work.

  4. Students need to be skilled in using Laptop / Computers, and should be comfortable with Class X level mathematics for both the specialization tracks.

  5. Training / Workshop / Project work will be conducted in English

  6. Students opting for Data Science track should have the aptitude to learn computer programming in Python language.

  7. Students opting for Social Science track will need to use Microsoft Excel / LibreOffice / Google Sheet to deliver their projects.

  8. IDEAS TIH will assign project guides for the students and mentor them till completion of the assignment.

  9. Internship does not provide any commitment for future job / campus placement opportunities.
