After a very succesful summer internship programme in 2024, IDEAS TIH at ISI Kolkata is pleased to announce the second edition of this programme. It is a
unique opportunity for UG / PG students of the degree colleges affiliated to University of Calcutta, West Bengal State University, and other state Universities
Data scientists and Social Scientists conduct research to solve technological, business, social and environmental challenges. These professionals play a key role in solving complex problems and making significant contributions to society, from predicting disease outbreaks to developing sustainable solutions for environmental challenges
The IDEAS Technology Innovation Hub at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, is organizing a eight-week summer internship-cum-training program for undergraduate students. This program is meticulously designed to welcome students from various fields,
providing them with invaluable insights into foundations of data analysis through hands-on experience with real-world data. This program has been designed to meet the NEP 2020 and UGC guidelines for 120 hours of summer internship.
Internship Duration: 8 weeks starting from May 19, 2025

Eligibility: Open to all undergraduate students from any college or university. No eligibility test / selection criteria. Students should be willing to spend 10-20 hours per week for this programme.
Delivery Model: Hybrid (online classes with optional interactive sessions at ISI campus). Online classes will be held in the evenings between 7PM - 9PM. Flexibility to work from home.
Specializations: Each student may select one of the following specialization
Data Science Track: This will cover topics such as Basics of Data Science, Python programming for basic data analysis, Power BI, No code machine learning tools, Generative AI and LLM. Project work will involve application of programming on real life data
Social Science Track: This will cover topics such as Basics of Data Science, Statistics, Research Methodology, Problem Solving Skills Training, Data Analysis and Visualization. Generative AI and LLM. Project work will involve field work and data analysis
Internship Management Fees: IDEAS TIH will collect a Rs. 2150 + 18% GST = Rs 2537 per student to manage the internship program. The fee needs to be deposited to IDEAS TIH bank account online through our Billdesk payment gateway prior to registration.

This program is offered by the Institute of Data Engineering, Analytics and Science Foundation (IDEAS), which is a not-for-profit company and a technology innovation hub of the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.

Internship completion certificate will be issued by IDEAS TIH upon successful completion of the training and field work/project deliverables. Students who do not complete the project work will not get receive the internship completion certificate. A sample internship certificate can be found here.

Students need to be skilled in using Laptop / Computers, and should be comfortable with Class X level mathematics for both the specialization tracks.

Training / Workshop / Project work will be conducted in English

Students opting for Data Science track should have the aptitude to learn computer programming in Python language.

Students opting for Social Science track will need to use Microsoft Excel / LibreOffice / Google Sheet to deliver their projects.

IDEAS TIH will assign project guides for the students and mentor them till completion of the assignment.
